Protecting Your Hearing Every Day: Noise, Habits and When to See a Doctor

Most lasting hearing damage is preventable. These habits matter more than any supplement.

1. Mind the volume

Prolonged exposure to sounds around 85 decibels or louder can damage hearing. Use the 60/60 rule for headphones: no more than 60% volume for up to 60 minutes at a time.

2. Wear protection

Use earplugs or earmuffs around power tools, concerts, motorsports and loud workplaces.

3. Leave the cotton swabs alone

Swabs can push wax deeper or injure the ear canal. Ask a clinician about wax buildup.

4. Review your medications

Some medicines can affect hearing. Ask your pharmacist or doctor, and never stop a prescription on your own.

5. Know the warning signs

Sudden hearing loss in one or both ears, new ringing, ear pain, drainage or dizziness warrant prompt medical evaluation. Sudden hearing loss can be an emergency.

6. Supplements are optional extras

If you try a product like Tinizen, treat it as a small add-on, check for interactions and mind the caffeine.
